HBA STATEMENT ON RACISM AND POLICE BRUTALITY

Dear HBA community,

We write in full agreement with the open letter issued by our sister organization, the American Association of Physical Anthropologists, in response to police brutality against the African-American community in the U.S. Because it offers specific, actionable ways to support action against racism, including the decolonization of academic research and classroom teaching, please do read this letter in full:

AAPA’s Open Letter to Our Community in Response to Police Brutality Against African-Americans and a Call to Antiracist Action

Our HBA community must support specific ways to change our science, our society, and ourselves. We wish to share resources on race, racism, and decolonization on our website, and invite you to send us the resources you have found helpful. Please send your specific suggestions, by June 30th, to our HBA student representative, Carlye.chaney@yale.edu, and/or to the HBA President, Catherine.Panter-Brick@yale.edu. We also invite suggestions to build diversity within our organization.
